Under the Sea Competition – Everything You Need to Know!

We’re so excited that our April competition – Under the Sea is fast approaching! On Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th April 2025, we’ll be welcoming gymnasts from across our club to take part in a fun-filled weekend of gymnastics, medals, and memories. 💜

All members should have received your email invitation to enter, be sure to get signed up ASAP as this is always one of our most popular events! If you’re new to competitions or have any questions about how the event works, we’ve put together this handy guide to answer your most frequently asked questions (FAQs).

💜 Is this competition for my child?

YES! This competition is open to all our members — whether your child attends:
✅ Recreational Classes (after school or Saturday)
✅ Reception Gymnastics (4-year-olds)
✅ Squad Sessions

Even our youngest reception-age gymnasts have a simple floor routine and vault, making it an inclusive and fun event for everyone!

💜 How does the competition work?

All gymnasts will compete in a ‘Set’ that matches their ability. Their coach will decide this and ensure they’re in the right group.

  • Recreational and most advanced rec gymnasts will compete on floor and vault only on the Saturday.
  • Squads and some advanced rec gymnasts will compete on 2, 3 or 4 pieces (floor, vault, bars, and beam) on the Sunday. All Sunday gymnasts will have a floor routine set to music.

We’ve already uploaded video demonstrations of each of the recreational set’s floor routines in our closed Facebook group to help your child practice at home. If you’re unsure which set your child is in, you can:
👉 Ask their coach in class
👉 Email Catherine at admin@penkethgymnastics.co.uk
👉 Check the programme once it’s been emailed out. (after entries close)

💜 When will we know the timings?

Once entries have closed, we’ll create a competition programme which will be emailed to you. This will contain:

  • Your child’s Registration Time (when to arrive)
  • ✅ Your child’s set and their number (see below) for the competition.
  • ✅ Their Warm-Up Time
  • ✅ Approximate Competition Start Time
  • ✅ Medal Presentation Time

Please remember that timings are approximate, but we’ll do our best to keep things running smoothly.

💜 What happens on competition day?

Here’s a step-by-step guide for the day:

  1. Arrive for your Registration Time – Please wait outside until coaches welcome you in.
  2. Gymnasts arrive dressed ready to compete – Shoes and jackets/onesies should be left with parents in the foyer. Gymnasts go upstairs to warm up.
  3. Parents take their seats – Once your child goes upstairs with their coaches, parents can enter the gym, find a seat, and grab refreshments from the kitchen.
  4. Competition begins! – Gymnasts will compete their floor and vault routines and enjoy showing off their hard work!

After each round, there will be a medal presentation before the next round begins.

💜 What should they wear?

If your child has a club leotard, please have them wear it. If not, they can wear any leotard, or T-shirt and shorts/leggings. Club leotards are available to purchase in the gym. We have two options, our Rose leotard with ‘Penketh’ in sparkles on or our newest super sparkly Rocsa leotards which are covered in sparkles and a replica of our squad competitive leotards.

Hair should be neat and away from their face. Please no jewellery.

💜 Spectator Tickets – How do they work?

Your entry fee automatically includes ONE spectator ticket per gymnast for their round.

👉 If you’d like an additional ticket, these may become available for £5 each on Love Admin after entries close. Availability depends on how many gymnasts are in each round.
👉 Each gymnast can have a maximum of 2 spectators.
👉 Children under 2 do not need a ticket if they can sit on your lap. Any child over 2 requires their own ticket.

We will have a guest list at the door with the names of gymnasts and their spectators – no physical tickets are needed.

💜 Why do they need a number & what is it for?

Each gymnast will have a competition number next to their name on the programme. This number helps judges keep track of performances.

🎨 We encourage gymnasts to decorate their number in an Under the Sea theme!
✔ Approx size: A4 paper
✔ Avoid materials like glitter, cotton wool, or anything that could mark the gym floor.
✔ There will even be a Best Decorated Number award in each round!

💜 Will there be refreshments?

Absolutely! ☕🍫 Our kitchen will be open selling:

  • Tea, coffee, cold drinks. Discounts available for those bringing a reusable mug!
  • Snacks and tuck shop goodies

👉 Cash preferred (no card facilities, we can take payments via QR code but it can be slow when the gym is busy).

💜 Can I volunteer to help?

Yes please! 🙌 We always need volunteers to help things run smoothly. If you can spare some time to:

  • Help in the kitchen serving refreshments, or
  • Support our coaching team with little tasks on the day

👉 Please email Catherine at admin@penkethgymnastics.co.uk.
👉 If you’d like to learn more about becoming a coach or judge, contact Sarah at info@penkethgymnastics.co.uk.
