Safer Internet Day 11th February 2025
Safer Internet Day – Staying Safe Online in Our Gymnastics Community
Tomorrow is Safer Internet Day, a global initiative to promote the safe and responsible use of digital technology. As a club, we are committed to ensuring the online safety of our gymnasts, coaches, and wider community and want to take this opportunity to remind you of our guidelines.
What You Need to Know:
📌 Coaches & Club Accounts – Our club’s social media accounts and our coaches are not allowed to follow, friend, or directly message any of our gymnasts or coaches under the age of 18. This helps maintain appropriate professional boundaries and safeguard our members.
📌 Private vs. Public Accounts – We strongly discourage gymnasts under 18 from having public social media accounts. Instead, we recommend their accounts be set to private and monitored by a parent or guardian to help protect their privacy.
📌 Privacy Settings Matter – We advise gymnasts and parents to check social media settings to:
✅ Disable friend requests from people they don’t know.
✅ Turn off location settings to prevent sharing their whereabouts.
📌 Posting Photos & Videos – Any photos or videos taken in the gym and shared with parents must not be posted on social media if they contain other gymnasts in the background. This aligns with our Photography Policy, which is in place to safeguard all members.
📌 Minimum Age Requirements – The majority of social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat, have a minimum age requirement of 13. We encourage parents to be mindful of this and ensure their child is using online platforms safely and appropriately.
Why These Rules Matter
The internet can be a fantastic place to share achievements, connect with friends, and celebrate our gymnastics community. However, it’s essential to do so safely and responsibly. These guidelines are here to protect our gymnasts’ privacy, ensure their online safety, and uphold the values of our club.
We encourage parents to have open conversations with their children about online safety, including who they interact with, what they share, and how they can protect their personal information.
This Safer Internet Day, let’s work together to create a positive and secure online environment for our young gymnasts.
